Summary of Market Insights on Robotics

Analysts are predicting the robotics market to explode in the next decade to touch $100 Billion by 2025.  In a report dated Feb 2016, IDC predicts the overall spending on robotics to grow to $135.4 Billion in 2019 from  $71 billion in 2015.  Worldwide robotics spending is dominated by the discrete and process manufacturing industries, which accounted for 33.2%  ($25B) and 30.2% ($ 22.7 B) of total spending in 2015. Worldwide spending on robotics systems is estimated to grow to $32 B by 2019.  Process Manufacturing and healthcare are expected to be double their spending on robotics by 2019.  Link to IDC market release.

IFR statistics show that with 229K robot sales, 2014 was the year for the highest ever recorded sales. Between 2010 and 2014 robot sales grew by 48% (177K units) indicating the demand for robots in the industry.   Another interesting insight is that only 5 countries accounted for 70% of the sales volume:  China, Japan, the United States, the Republic of Korea and Germany.  Automotive industry held a 43% share of the total supply of robots. The adoption of robotics across the Automotive value chain is also seen.  Automotive electronics part suppliers held a major share of robot units in 2014.  Checkout the downloadable report from IFR in the list below.   Also checkout the nice video of robots in action on the Mercedes production line.
